Quantitative Economics, Quantitative Finance und Quantitative Marketing (M.Sc.)
This is a research oriented master program only suitable for those students who have the required math background. It is the first two years of the phd program at GSEFM.
Pros:
Good faculty, standard graduate level coursework, great research opportunities, no tuition fees, synergies between uni Darmstatd and uni Mainz, flexibility in the second year, strong in macro and finance, positive externalities of location at the heart of Frankfurt.
Cons:
1. They take in a large batch of 60 students, almost everyone who applies gets in. This provides a false signal to those students who are not qualified enough to take the coursework. Such students suffer later as indicated by high dropout rates.
2. Very bad administrative service: Students have to spend lot of time and effort in sorting out administrative matters and paperwork, there is no information or help provided in advance.
3. No extra support for students who need extra help with the curriculum, the pre semester classes are not very helpful.
4. Very few scholarships in the first year, and funding for the second year onwards is not guaranteed.
5. Faculty does not seem to be supportive of the feedback from students.
Overall, the program content is good with decent future prospects, but there are many problems and further scope of improvement. There are better programs in Germany and Europe.
