First Semester Reflection: A Student's Journey
I'm an international student, and I'm just about done with my first semester at FAU.
In the beginning, I wasn't too thrilled about the courses they offered. It felt like they didn't quite match my interests. But as time went on, I realized they cover a wide range of topics, some of which I never thought I'd find interesting. It was an eye-opener.
Now, when it comes to the facilities, they're pretty good. The ones in Erlangen are modern and well-maintained, but the ones in Nurnberg could use a bit more attention.
Most of my instructors were pretty good at teaching, but there were a few who could've been better. Some assumed we knew more than we did or rushed through things.
The online learning experience was smooth and dependable. Every course had its content and classes available online, which was super convenient.
The library is a great place to study or research, whether you're on your own or with friends. They've got all the gear you need. It would've been even better if they had more computers, though, because they tend to get snatched up pretty quickly.
The one big headache during my studies has been finding a place to live. FAU doesn't offer student housing, so I had to look elsewhere, like Studentenwerk. Unfortunately, that didn't work out, and I later found out that finding student housing in Erlangen is a real challenge. There just aren't enough slots, which has been a major hassle, and I've spent a lot of time hunting for a place to stay.

Wie gut ist deine Hochschule digital aufgestellt?
My university is pretty well set up in the digital department. They've got a good handle on things when it comes to technology.
All our courses have an online presence, which is super handy. You can access course materials, lectures, and assignments without any fuss. It's great because you can study at your own pace and refer back to things whenever you need to.
The library is also well-equipped digitally. You can access a ton of resources online, which is a lifesaver when you're working on research projects. Plus, they're pretty tech-savvy in there, so you can get help if you're stuck with anything tech-related.
Overall, I'd say our university's doing a good job of keeping up with the digital times. It makes studying and learning a lot more convenient.
