The Master's programme Economics at the University of Konstanz addresses the application of economic theories and empirical methods to understand, model, and evaluate real-world economic questions. Thereby the programme provides you with a state-of-the-art postgraduate education in Economics at highest international standards. The M.Sc. Economics lays the groundwork for your successful career in the private or public sector.
The M.Sc. Economics is a master's programme made to measure: you can choose between different study tracks and either opt for maximum breadth and flexibility with our general track or focus more on one area of economics with our specialization track. Vollzeitstudium
- Above average degree in an at least 3-year Bachelor's programme from a recognized university in economics or a related degree, e.g. mathematics or natural sciences with a significant quantitative component.
- Evidence of knowledge acquired in mathematics, statistics, or economics during your Bachelor's degree course.
- High level of English comparable to a TOEFL (92)/ IELTS (6.5)

The Master’s programme comprises modules, including classes, seminars and the Master's thesis, amounting to 120 ECTS. In the first semester, all students take the same compulsory courses (Advanced Microeconomics I, Advanced Macroeconomics I, Advanced Econometrics).
To customize your Master's, you can choose one of three tracks:
Track A: This is our fast track to a PhD.
Track B: Passionate for a specific area of Economics? Track B allows you to specialise in one of five subject areas (examples for specific courses in brackets):
- Econometrics and Applied Economics (e.g. Applied Time Series Analysis, Microeconometrics and Machine Learning, Financial Econometrics)
- International Financial Economics (e.g. Portfolio Management, Risk Management, Bank Management)
- Macroeconomics and International Economics (International Macroeconomics, International Monetary Economics)
- Microeconomics and Decision Making (e.g. Behavioral Economics, Advanced Microeconomics II, Compensation & Benefits)
- Public Economics (e.g. Labor Markets and Inequality, Economics of Education, Behavioral Public Economics)
Track C: Create your own curriculum! Track C provides you with a general economic postgraduate education, enabling you to choose your courses flexibly.
- Excellence: Study at a renowned department at one of Germany’s Universities of Excellence conducting leading research e.g. in the area of economic inequality.
- Made-to-measure: choose classes on a range from microeconomics over risk management to public economics, gain a specialization or take the general track
- Close supervision: small classes facilitate direct interaction with your lecturers and improve your learning experience.
- No tuition fees for EU/EEA Citizens (tuition fees for students from outside the EU/EEA countries and for UK double degree options)
- Study internationally: all classes are taught in English, which leads to an international student cohort. This will prepare you ideally for an international work environment later on.

Nur für wirklich an den Themen Interessierte
Aufbauen auf dem Bachelor Wirtschaftswissenschaften ist der Master in Sachen Schwierigkeit ein ganz anderes Level. Ist man jedoch an der Thematik wirklich interessiert kann man hier wirklich tiefgreifend es und sehr quantitatives Wissen erlangen. Programmierkenntnisse inbegriffen.
Anspruchsvolle Herausforderung
Echt anspruchsvoll, dass Level das von einem hier erwartet wird ist extrem hoch, aber es erwarten einen ausgezeichnete Möglichkeiten nach dem Master, sei es in der akademischen Welt oder im privaten Sektor (vor allem in Zürich wenn es eine*n in den Finanzsektor zieht).
Enttäuschende
Manche Dozenten kümmern sich nicht
Examina waren öfters auf was das man nicht in die Vorlesungen gelernt hat. Uni hat ein guten Ruf aber Mann kann es nicht sehen woher den Ruf kommt. Masterarbeit Betreuerin war richtig unverschämt, hat sich nur ein Mal in 6 Monate mit getroffen.
Da waren aber manche gute Dozenten auch.
Anfangs hart, dann richtig gut
Das erste Semester ist sehr methodisch, dann kommen die coolen Vorlesungen und Seminare. Meist kleine Veranstaltungen und viel Raum für Fragen und persönlichen Kontakt zu Kommilitonen als auch Dozenten.
Durch die Wahl der Vertiefung wählt man dann seinen Schwerpunkt, kann sich allerdings auch alles offen halten. Zudem sind interdisziplinäre Veranstaltungen geboten.
