During my Master’s in Earth and Climate System Science, I gained a comprehensive understanding of Earth system processes, with a strong focus on active remote sensing and data assimilation. As students in this program, we were always encouraged to develop a deep understanding of Earth and Climate System processes, with numerous opportunities to seek additional guidance from lecturers on complex topics. Coming from a physics background, I found the course to be an excellent fit, and it would likely be well-suited for students from a range of disciplines. This program offers a balanced approach to understand further applied atmopsheric physics, mathematics, atmospheric chemistry etc.
My experience during my master’s thesis with the Remote Sensing Group in the Department of Physics and Meteorology provided hands-on experience with advanced lidar systems, which enhanced my skills in data analysis and interpretation. Throughout my thesis period, I met with my supervisor almost every week, allowing me to refine my research approach and deepen my technical expertise.
While the course is well-designed, I would recommend adding modules that focus on applying machine learning and AI to Earth system science to further strengthen students' analytical capabilities.
