Confusing and misleading
Top address for childhood research training
The masters program is called "Early Childhood RESEARCH" and it maintains what it promises - preparation for becoming a researcher in the field of developmental psychology. I would highly recommend to reflect upon one´s own career objectives before considering this program.
Personally, I chose this program out of others because of this particular focus and I have not been disappointed. As I have already worked a lot in research labs, I feel confident to assess that the courses address fundamental research compentencies. Courses are demanding and it is definately helpful to have a former education in psychology. However, there have been opportunities to catch up and confront knowledge gaps from the very start of the program if necessary (e.g. crashcourse statistics). Moreover, lecturers have offered their help multiple times and even take their time to meet and discuss open questions outside the classroom if needed. Therefore, (and considering that in "normal" master programs most lecturers do not even know your name) I disagree with previous reviews that claim a lack of support.
Overall, I evaluate the courses as stimulating and the lecturers as competent and enthusiastic. Besides, the cooperations of the research center with the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Science as well as the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology are a tremendous benefit of the program. Thus, this program would still be my first choice for research training in developmental psychology in Germany.
