Putting focus on a diverse country
Comprehensive overview of themes relevant to India
My experience as a First Year Student at CeMIS have so far been thoroughly enjoyable. I continue to have the opportunity to pursue my research interests in an inter-disciplinary manner by participating in lectures and engaging regularly with the Professors at CeMIS. CeMIS is perfectly placed to encourage the study of the inter-relationships between various forms of inequality in the context of the historically determined circumstances in which democratic participation and struggle (in India and other countries) continues to beg questions of academics, observers and activists alike. The course content is well equipped to prepare students for an academic career as well as encouraging us to be part of wider struggles for justice - in this sense, the academic programme is fundamentally political in its aims.
Göttingen is a quaint town which is perfect for students and entails very affordable living costs. In addition to the main study programme (MA for instance), the University offers ample opportunities to allow students to learn languages (Indian and European), participate in sports and has at least 3 well-equipped libraries housing books of various genre. I would highly recommend anyone interested in gaining an understanding of contemporary India to apply at CeMIS, and check out the CeMIS website for further details.
